A year-long project that encourages students to create interactive environments using CryENGINE® 3 kicked off in England last week.
Operated by Crytek in association with the British Library and GameCity, the Off the Map challenge urges students from participating colleges and universities to draw inspiration from British Library maps and then turn that inspiration into interactive environments using our free CryENGINE 3 SDK. Maps could depict anything from London in the aftermath of the Great Fire to fantasy environments from famous novels. Selected Off the Map entrants will have their work chosen by a panel of judges and showcased at events worldwide, including GameCity 8 in Nottingham next year.
“The Off the Map challenge will give some of the UK's brightest talent the chance to become familiar with CryENGINE and discover the limitless potential it offers for bringing their ideas to life.” said Carl Jones, Director of CryENGINE Global Business Development at Crytek. “We hope the creative freedom the project allows entrants will produce some unexpected results, and we look forward to seeing how participants are inspired by these unique assets.”
The official launch of the event took place at the British Library in London recently, with representatives of the nine participating universities in attendance to get things underway. Find out more by visiting the dedicated Off the Map section over at CryDev.net.
