Crytek at Gamescom 2016: Day One

Whew! We’ve made it through the first day at Gamescom, the biggest video gaming expo in the world. You should see this place. Huge halls filled with loud music, bright lights, and row after row of gaming stations where you can try every game you’ve been dying to get your hands on are the backbone of the Cologne-based event, while in the business area, all the game companies you love are busy planning their next move.

The Crytek booth – which you can visit in Hall 6 – is absolutely incredible, if we don’t say so ourselves. ;) But hey, we’re really proud of what we’re showing this year, and if you’re a lucky enough to be in Cologne right now, you can stop by and get your hands around Oculus Touch controllers while you scale hyper-realistic cliffs and mountains in our debut VR release The Climb, or be one of the first members of the public to enter the stunning and mysterious extrasolar world of Robinson: The Journey, coming exclusively to PS VR this Fall.

We had a visit from youtuber Rowdy Guy (pictured above), who tried The Climb and tells us he loved the experience. Expect something on his channel on the subject soon. We also played host to Germany’s Minister for Economics, Garrelt Duin – who was equally keen to get to grips with the Oculus Touch controllers.

Meanwhile, the eagle-eyed judges on Gamescom’s official awards panel have slapped their seal of approval on Robinson: The Journey, nominating it for Best Virtual Reality Game at the show, as well as adding it as a contender in the Best Booth category. Winners in the annual awards contest will be announced on Friday from Gamescom’s social media stage.

If you’re not at Gamescom but want to live vicariously through the Crytekkers who are here, then be sure to follow us here, on Twitter, or on Facebook. If you’re at the expo between now and Sunday, stop by our booth and give our games a try. There just might be some sweet, sweet swag in it for you too.
