The Mediadesign Hochschule recently obtained a license for use of the CryENGINE"®2
for both teaching and research purposes. This engine, which was recently used to develop the multi-award winning game Crysis, will be available for both interdisciplinary projects and for students undertaking the Bachelors Degree in game design studies.
The CryENGINE"®2 is a software engine and toolkit used by game developers that enables the creation of high definition 3D environments and scenarios which can then be experienced in real-time on general purpose personal computers and gaming consoles. Computer games that use this software can display realistic virtual worlds with impressive real time lighting, interactive physics and stunning visual effects. Using this engine will give students an opportunity to develop a first hand knowledge of the most advanced game development technologies and procedures. The main purpose of this acquisition will be to develop the knowledge and skills of the students in the disciplines of Game Programming, Game Design and Game Production, as well as enabling students to create their own virtual movies and other innovative projects.
"Using the CryENGINE"®2 at the Mediadesign Hochschule for teaching purposes as well as in our research projects will give our students a very realistic overview of modern game development practices" says Dr. Prof Linda Breitlauch, Head of the Game Design Program at the MDH. "and it will give them the ability to take part in the research and development of this rapidly advancing field, using the most highly awarded and technically advanced real-time game development toolset available today".
