Character Artist
Prerequisites:
- Should have either a degree or at least 4 years professional production experience in lieu of.
- Demonstrated History of:
- Actively supporting Art Direction.
- Remaining faithful to projects' Art Direction.
- Demonstrates a strong ability to create believable photorealistic human characters within a games engine.
- All Character Animation Candidates must have a portfolio and reel that demonstrates:
- A strong artistic background, with numerous examples of life drawing.
- Layout and/or character design.
- Keen eye on detail and realism.
- The portfolio should focus texturing of human heads, including all races.
- Strong understanding of the texturing process used in next generation games and in Feature film industry.
- Ability to derive a well structured lowpoly model from the high poly model, ready for sophisticated facial animation.
- Strong understanding of efficient UV layout for lowpoly characters, especially heads.
- Strong texturing skills.
- If coming from outside the game industry, new hires will be expected to learn/understand how game-play and real time issues can affect Character Animators; they will be expected to develop techniques to compensate for such limitations
Requirements:
- Above with at least 2-4 yrs. cinematic/games production experience, 1-2 yrs. feature film a big plus.
- 3-5 min Reel demonstrates a strong ability to consistently create convincing performances and characters with complex personalities.
- Ability to design a move tree for a single character.
- Consistently demonstrates an excellent sense of timing.
- Must be able to adapt to new technologies.
- Good English communication skills.
- Relocation to Budapest, Hungary required.
Understanding:
- A very strong understanding of:
- Technical limitations of the engine.
- Efficient lowpoly modeling and UV layout techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Fully participate in the creative process.
- With nominal, if any supervision:
- Ensuring that all aspects of art-pre-production are completed on a timely baisis to a high standard.
- Create style guides to guarantee the consistency of the game.
- Prototype new technologies on the given platforms.
- Work together with our Research and Development department to improve workflow.
- Define work processes together with the Lead Artist.
- Ensuring that all aspects of art-pre-production are completed on a timely baisis to a high standard.
- Mentors Junior Artists on their team.
- Shows a very strong passion for making the highest quality state of the art games.
