Animator

 

Prerequisites: 

  • Should have either a degree or at least 4 years professional production experience in lieu of.
  • Demonstrated History of:
    • Actively supporting Art Direction.
    • Remaining faithful to projects' Art Direction.
  • All Character Animation Candidates must have a portfolio and reel that demonstrates:
    • A strong artistic background, with numerous examples of life drawing.
    • Layout and/or character design.
    • The portfolio should focus on the human form and its movement.
    • Strong understanding of classic animation principles and fundamentals (i.e.; Squash and Stretch, Staging, timing and Motion, anticipation, exaggeration, follow through, arcs and appeal).
    • An intrinsic ability for storytelling.
    • Acting and cinematography skills are an asset.
    • Sculpture skills are an asset.
  • If coming from outside the game industry, new hires will be expected to learn/understand how game-play and real time issues can affect Character Animators; they will be expected to develop techniques to compensate for such limitations

 

Requirements:

  • Above with at least 2-4 yrs. cinematic/games production experience, 1-2 yrs. feature film a big plus.
  • 3-5 min Reel demonstrates a strong ability to consistently create convincing performances and characters with complex personalities.
  • Ability to design a move tree for a single character.
  • Consistently demonstrates an excellent sense of timing.
  • Must be able to adapt to new technologies.
  • Good English communication skills.
  • Relocation to Budapest, Hungary required.

 

Understanding:

  • A very strong understanding of:
    • Animation fundamentals.
    • Pace and storytelling skills.
    • Motion trees (Structure, flow, How they work in Real time, use of Neutral Poses, etc.).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Brings life to characters in their project through available means, despite technology limitations.
  • With nominal, if any supervision:
    • If project has facial animation, completes any necessary facial animation to quality standards set by Lead.
    • May be required to assist in the completion of motion trees for any character(s), object(s), or game area(s).
    • Assists in the documentation of animation processes, and reads all applicable documentation.
    • Responsible for creating ingame cinematics produced with our Sandbox editor.
    • Where required, develops animation for vehicle and non-character objects.
    • Creates animation that is on model, and portrays character personalities that are consistent with the design style and vision.
    • Assists in creating facial animation for ingame cinematics and pre-rendered cut scenes.
    • Responsible for ensuring that all aspects of Animation pre-production are completed on a timely basis to a high standard.
    • Required to assist in creating an animation personality/style for characters in a character driven title.
    • May be required to assist in writing Animation portions of MDD; Documentation animation processes.
  • Mentors Junior Animators on their team.
  • Helps to develop complex Motion Capture and/or Voice/ADR Sessions where Character Animation is involved.
